What are the best or worst summer jobs you have worked?

You gonna see it?

It is officially Summer! Not too big a deal in California- where I am from. We've basically only got two seasons: Summer, (which others call "Spring," "Summer," and "Fall"), and Summer, Jr. (which others, I've heard, call "Winter"). But nonetheless, I was thinking today about what exactly I enjoy about California Summers. Not surprisingly, I love going to the beach (kind of obvious, I know), but I also love camping at the beach, riding bikes at the beach, having bonfires at the beach, and, ummmm, almost anything that can be done at a beach.

I was also thinking today, "I wonder what people in other places do for fun in the Summer?" Seriously! So, I thought I'd post it here, in the hopes that people from all over can give a Summertime Shout-out to their region, and what they all do for fun there in the Summer!

Usually, if we were to talk about a group of four guys in their 40’s playing rock and roll, I’d either picture some dudes who shouldn’t be wearing leather pants but are anyway, who still, after all these years, just can’t give up “the dream,” OR I would picture some old dudes playing “purely for the love of music” in some absolute dive for a bunch of really drunk white people who can’t dance, but insist on doing so regardless. Neither of these instances is the case with U2. After more than 30 years of (seriously) the best music ever produced, Dublin’s finest are still fully capable of producing some really good music- as evidenced by their most recent release: No Line on the Horizon.

OK. So I exaggerate. I don't really think I suck as a friend. In fact, I'm probably a better friend than any of the friends on the show Friends (or so I tell myself).

Generally speaking, I think it's pretty simple. If you've got somebody, you're a fan of Valentine's Day; if not, you curse it for the greeting card industry's made-up-holiday ploy to force you into buying cards and chocolates and ridiculously over-sized stuffed bears holding hearts, that it really is. Generally, of course.

We have to remind ourselves sometimes that there is GOOD in the world! Sometimes, we have to be very intentional about focusing on the positive, when there is seemingly an overabundance of the negative.

I�m trying to be more conscious of how my choices not only affect my own health, but how my choices can literally affect people across the globe.

Ahh, the end of the year. Time for resolutions, reflections, hopes and dreams... and endless "Best of 2008" lists. And I do mean endless. I typed "Best of 2008" into Google, and it returned two billion results! Sorry to disappoint, but I did not browse through all two billion sites. I did, however, click through a few that I thought were interesting, and wanted to share with you! So, here it goes; the best of the Best of 2008.

Advent is about waiting. It is about anticipation. It is about, of course, the coming of the Christ to this earth. I�ve been focusing a lot on the �waiting� aspect of Advent, however, because, well, let�s face it, waiting is just not something our society is keen on- especially during the holiday season.

First of all, a huge thanks to all of you who participated and got the RedisWhite word out ...

...the grace of God in my life; my family; my daily bread. And the Christmas tree I just put up in my living room!

What are you thankful for?

If you are either a teenage girl, a female in her young twenties, or you personally know any of the aforementioned, then you are probably aware of the phenomenon that is �Twilight.� I happen to know a fair number of teenage girls, via my place of employment. And after seeing dozens of them (literally dozens) all walking around with this book last year, (and many of them begggggggging me to read it), I buckled down and read it.

How about a good ol' Top 5 list for Thanksgiving.

What better way is there to express yourself than a tiny little 50x50 likeness (or non-likeness if that's your flavor).

Voting time is very near. Tensions are high. Campaigns are mounting their last ditch efforts, throwing any and everything at the voters to sway them their way. While I do not want to make this a platform for readers to shout out their personal voting convictions, I am curious about whether or not you plan on voting.

While I cannot really claim to be proud of any of my past Halloween costumes, I'd love to hear from you guys about the best (and worst) costumes you grew up wearing. So, how about it?

Let�s get a sense of perspective here first. If you have A) a roof over your head, B) food to eat, C) clothes to wear, D) any or all of the above, you are richer than somebody else. Almost by default, if you are American, you are richer than most other people in the world. That being said, times are tough. But isn�t it all really just a matter of perspective?

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am an Autumn Enthusiast. There are a lot of things that I love about this season, and even though I am jumping the gun a little bit (Autumn officially begins 9/23), I thought I would share the top 5 things I am looking forward to.

So, when Jesus tells us to love our neighbors, yeah, I�ve got Willie�s back on that one. Society may look down on him, but he�s my homeboy. Problem is, Jesus didn�t put any disclaimers in that little �Greatest Commandment� bit, such as, �Oh, it�s ok if your neighbor�s a jerk. You don�t have to love them then.� Or, �Just love them if they�re friendly to you first.� Or, �You only have to love them if they wave back to you and acknowledge the fact that you even exist.�

This has nothing to do with tshirts, or RiW in general... but sometimes you just gotta have a little fun.

If you have the pleasure of owning a Red is White t-shirt, you may have wondered- as I surely did when it arrived in the mail- �Why in the Sam Hill is there a rooster on my shirt?� It took some investigating, but I believe I have gotten to the root of the matter!

Just wanted to let all you RedisWhite designers out there know that we've updated the Submit Kit.

Here at Red is White we're constantly getting design submissions that run the gamut of style, design, thought, and execution. Some totally blow us away...

It seems that RiW is blowing up right now! I love seeing the flurry of designs that have been coming in lately. New designs keep popping up every day. But what I love even more is the quality of the work, the thoughtfulness, and the intrigue sparked by it all. And it also looks like the RiW community- those commenting on and rating the designs- is growing as well. All of which I love.

And the winner is... I have no idea! Due to the many, many restraints on my time, it is crazy to say, but (gulp) I have not been to a single movie in the year 2008. So help me out here, because I want to know what to rent and what not to rent once all these movies hit DVD.

Is art one of those touchy subjects like religion and politics that you�re not really supposed to talk about because people either get all offended or things get too controversial because of differing viewpoints? I don�t know! So that�s why I�m going to go ahead and ask: What is art?

Until recently, if anybody knew the name Jon Foreman, it was as the lead singer/frontman for Switchfoot. I happened to stumble across his name when I was browsing iTunes one day, and listened to a little bit of his first effort in a solo project he�d been working on- which was the Fall EP. I bought it immediately, and have been very pleased not only with that purchase, but with each of his follow-ups as well: Winter, Spring, and his latest release, Summer. (Notice a theme here?)

Just for fun, let�s consider this year�s presidential election in light of one of Red Is White�s slogans: Faithful and Stylish.

Ah, technology. Do we love thee? Or hate thee?

I have no qualms about the fact that I�ve loved every Coldplay album to date. All right, so X&Y was just ok. But the great thing about Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends is that it breaks out. It�s not the same old Coldplay, and the direction they take on this album breathes (ironically) new life into the band.

This is the first of what I hope will be a series of reflections to answer the question: What can I do?

It�s an important question, I think. But perhaps it is one that not enough people seriously consider.

Every designer has those moments. Design block you might call it. And hopefully we all have our own tricks for how to get ourselves "un-blocked." Here are a few things that provide me with inspiration, but what I really want to know, is what inspires you?

At 7:01AM on March 17th, I watched as my little baby girl came into this world. Avery Jae Paterson was 6 pounds, 13 ounces and 19.25 inches long. Her left ear was folded over where it should have been curved, and she needed a little help to breathe, but she was perfect. She is perfect.
